Paragliding at Unterberghorn

Kössen – Unterberghorn is among Europe’s best-known, safest, and most beloved paragliding destinations. As a frequent host of World, European, and National Championships in para- and hang gliding, the Kaiserwinkl region has earned a stellar reputation internationally. Over the decades, Kössen has evolved into a true paragliding mecca, cherished by hobbyists and experts alike.

Unterberghorn offers flying opportunities all year long. Standing at 1,774 meters, it ranks among the highest peaks in the Kitzbühel district. The central takeoff point at about 1,500 meters is easily reached by the Unterberghorn gondola. Right beside it, the charming Bärenhütte beckons with a sunny terrace, offering breathtaking views over the Tyrolean Alps and neighboring Bavaria. On beautiful days, witness an impressive spectacle: dozens of paragliders and hang gliders silently gliding through the air.

With its north-south orientation and prime location in the expansive Kössen valley basin, Unterberg offers outstanding and dependable thermals. It’s no wonder this spot is highly favored not just in Austria but also by flying sports enthusiasts from Germany, particularly Bavaria.
